Part 3- Chapter 8

Ego is okay. Until it becomes all-absorbing Phoebe walked alone in the forest, painful, traitorous thoughts ripping her heart. She brushed her fingers along the bumpy trunks, darkness pouring out of them, and felt tears begin to fall down her face. She looked up, and took a slow, shuddering breath.         Aether was her father. A demigod, some would call her. A demigod cast off by her father and disowned by her mother. And now, for the past month, she has been forced to suppress her powers, and hide them from her friends. Hide them from her friends while each developed powers and made great strides in their talents. Maia was able to control and manipulate Water as easily as she was able to breathe. Or at least she made it look that way. Tim had developed Fire and was having much trouble controlling it, much to his bedroom’s disappointment. Now that Anna was gone, Darling was the only one who could help him control his fire. In addition, Sydney d...

Part 3- Chapter 7

Just be kind.               Water looked just as Maia had imagined. Of corse, she didn't actually see but as he could read her mind - and apparently her mental images too- he had laughed when the image of him rose to her mind and said,            Precisely correct, Maia. But I must say, my nose is rather sharper than the one you've depicted. Maia rose the day after Anna left at leaving plenty at time for her to meditate, breakfast, and collect her twirling thoughts. But pretty soon she heard a Water in her head.               Good morning, Maia! Are you ready?               Maia paused, thinking whether to take the snarky route or the docile one. She was just about to chose docile when Water said, Definitely decide ...

Part 3- Chapter 6

Tim’s birthday came and went. It will be painstakingly boring to have the reader live through the last month of Anna’s time with Maia, so I will summarize what they accomplished. Firstly, Maia was now able to hold Water for as long as she needed. No matter her environment, condition, or position, she could do it indefinitely. Through a series of hard, draining sessions, Maia was able to create animals and objects. She created a little animal, a hybrid of a mink and a puppy, that sat on her shoulder, and floated in the air beside her. At night, it disappeared, but the second Maia became conscious again, Sir Sturgill. She was able to use Water to dry herself and get wet. With a shove of mind-power, all of the condensation in the air around Maia became liquid, handy for surviving where water is limited.   She could fly, using a jet of Water beneath her, and shooting up. Amongst other things, these were the basic talents that she had learned to harness. And now, it was tim...

Part 3- Chapter 5

“Good morning!”        “AH!” Yelled Maia. She turned to see Tim, and with a sudden realization saw how the past four months had so drastically changed him. His once clenched brow was now relaxed and of yore his eyes had been drooping and sad.  But now they were alert and sparkling.          “Do you see what’s coming over the trees, sister?”           “The sun?” She said dubiously. Was it a trick question?           “Don’t answer a question with a question,” he said, settling down next to her. “But yes. It’s the sun. And a new morning. And my bi-“          “Birthday! Crickets! How could I forget?”             He smiled. “Well you’ll be 15 in eight months. Let’s see if I remember,” he said h...

Part 3- Chapter 4

Part 3 Chapter 4                  Fit is to fight, as fragile is to flee. Training. The very word made Maia’s head spin, her breath come quicker, and a desire to give up on everything filled her. But instead, she nodded weakly to Anna, and hobbled off to her bed, avoiding her family. She had woken up only two hours ago, but her bones hurt. The second she sank into her bed, her head drifted off into oblivion.  And Water interrupted her dreamless sleep.  Oh stop Maia, he said when she groaned and expressed wishes to just sleep. While I speak your body and mind will gain the rest they need. I am not making you do anything with your powers. I don't even need you to talk. Just listen. Maia groaned. Water, taking that as submission continued. When you wake up, you and Anna will train. In a week I will join you. Then, together, we will train you to defeat Aether. For the world must be purged of this dastardly being....
